Dear Ask The Doctor: Dear Doctor...I'm Ow, Age 25, My Height is 182cm and Weight is 83 kg. I always eat healthy food, it's been almost 3 years i didn't come near junk food. I don't Drink much and i am not a smoker. couple of days ago, I had flu...I thought this is normal but I did a blood test... and the results were all good except C.R. Protein... and it is 51mg.l !! is this normal when you have flu ? my doctor told me to re-do the tests in 2 weeks. but i googled a lot and go freaked out with such results... Can you please advice me what to do ? thank you !
Dear Ow: CRP is not a specific marker for any particular disease. It indicates presence of inflammation and infection in the body, thus necessitating further tests and treatment. The raised CRP levels in your case could possibly be related to the flu infection, thus it would be best to re test the levels in 2 weeks (the flu symptoms may have reduced or gone by then). If the CRP level in your blood drops, it means that you are getting better, else further investigation as to the cause of inflammation or infection may be required.
