Dear Ask The Doctor: This is the 5th time my daughter has had impitigo and I have been to the doctors 5 times. I have also seen a private dermatologist who said she has ezema. This is not the case as she has smooth, unbroken skin and does not itch. After the first bout of impitigo she has been left with a small red blemish on her cheek. The impitigo aslawys appears on the same place (the blemish. She has short nails, washes her hands and I bath her every 2 days. The anti-biotics are starting to take longer to work. Please help!
Dear Mia: Impetigo is a highly contagious skin infection. It is recommended to wash (do not scrub) your duaghter's skin several times a day, preferably with an antibacterial soap and always use a clean washcloth and towel each time. The lesions heal slowly so you need to take all precautions to prevent the spread of infection to other parts of the body. Antibiotics and good general health and hygiene may help prevent infection.
