Dear Ask The Doctor: Sir, I havebeen suffering from viral fever for last 4days. I have already consulted a doctor and he told that i hadbeen suffering from fever and there is also chance of having typhoid. During afternoons my temperature comes to normal but late nights my temperature agains rises to 103-105. Please help me out sir. What shall i do?
Dear Saurabh: Typhoid fever is a systemic illness characterised by sustained fever and abdominal complaints. The fever is unique in that it follows a ‘step ladder’ pattern. The fever rises everyday as the disease progresses. If typhoid infection is suspected, blood test for the diagnosis is recommended. Viral fever may also rise above 102 at times and last for 7 to 10 days before it goes away. Thus, with clinical examination and associated symptoms, your doctor may be able to diagnose the type of infection.
