Hospital stay after Hand Surgery
|

Dear Ask The Doctor: I had hand surgery yesterday by a hand surgeon. He did a debridement and cleaning of a infected finger. They are calling it cellulitis. How long after this procedure should a hospital stay be required?
Dear Travis: Your hospital stay will vary depending on the severity of the infection and how well you respond to surgery and antibiotics. There should be adequate signs of healing after about 5 days. However, your surgeon will not feel comfortable discharging you from the hospital unless there are clear signs that the infection is resolving. |
