Remedies for Fungal Infection

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi..m 20 years old.and i had fungus infection on my head, when i was 5 years old.but it went away from doctors medicines.but now dark rings of fungus are appearing on my neck and chest.and white spots on my shoulders and back.i consulted my doctors but its no use.i am applying lamasil cream(anti-fungal)topically,but it is a slow procedure.can u suggess me oral medication and diet so that i can get rid of them soon.its monsoon season so suggess me some health measures aswell.

Oral medications usually need a doctor’s prescription so you should go back to your doctor and ask for one. Lamisil is one of the weaker antifungals and you may need stronger antifungal creams. Most fungal infections start to improve after 3-4 weeks of treatment. You can probably try selenium sulfide lotion or ketoconazole cream x 10 days and see if it will improve. You should avoid wearing tight clothes because fungus thrives on moist environments. If it is itchy, you should also avoid certain foods (beans, seafoods, chicken, eggs, etc). These foods are high in histamine which can worsen the itchiness. I do hope I have answered your question and take care always.
