Dark Spot due to Skin Infecion |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: Hello, I am a 29 year old female who is presently residing in Pakistan. For the past couple of months I have been suffering from a skin infections in the corners of both of my eyes, my left hand and right elbow. The skin infection starts off with itching the first day then pain and tenderness the next day and then a water filled pocket on top of the skin. This pocket is very pain full on the skin. I have had it checked by a physician and he prescribed medication but it keeps reoccurring and this has left dark spots underneath my skin on the specified areas. If it is possible for you to recommend a medication I can use to make the dark spots go away please do so I will be greatly appreciate it. Dear Mehwish: It is difficult for me to diagnose the skin infection with the limited information available. Blister in the skin can be caused by i) infection - herpes, impetigo, eczema, dematitis herpetiformis. ii) contact with an allergic substance. The treatment will depend on the underlying cause. There are certain skin conditions that need further investigation because they may be a manifestation of other serious underlying disease. Certain auto-immune diseases do have skin manifestation (like SLE and Sjogrens), thyroid disease and intestinal lymphomas might also present with skin manifestation. For the dark spots, I would suggest You not to scratch the infected area when it itches, as it leads to scarring. Avoiding direct sunlight and sunscreens with a high SPF count may help. |
