Possible withdrawal effects from Anabolic Steroids

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi, I have recently used anabolic steroids. Everything went well until the last week of my cycle. I started getting panic attacks and sweating and I was not hungry at all. One week removed from taking the steroids the attacks have increased and I consulted with my doctor who says that I am most likely in withdrawal and that I should give it a week or so more to see how I am doing. Meanwhile, I know I am getting off the steroids and do have all the Posy Cycle Therapy stuff together. However, the doc told me that I should not use that and wait for the drug to clear my system. My question is... Should I take the Post Cycle stuff (anti estrogens and such) or should I just tough it out? I am hearing that withdrawals from the cycle itself are even worse once the drug has left your system. That wont help the panic attacks? Talked to two doctors and both said Not to.
Dear John: Most likely you are suffering the effects of the anabolic steroids withdrawal. I suggest that you try to stay away from those drugs so your system gets cleared. The use of anabolic steroids suppresses the naturally occurring production of testosterone in the body and, in males, may lead to a decrease in testicle size (atrophy), decreased sperm production, infertility, and baldness. As well, the excess steroid can be converted to estrogen in males and may lead to enlarged breasts (known as gynecomastia). Liver damage may often occur, and liver cancer is a risk. Psychiatric effects of steroids include excitation and depression. Aggression is common. Manic episodes of aggressive behavior are known as "roid rage," and violence may be the outcome. Depression and suicide may also occur. |
