Foot corn and methods of treatment

Dear Ask The Doctor: What is a foot corn? and how do i get rid of it?

Dear Jacqueline: A foot corn is also known as a callus in medical terminology. It forms due to continuos trauma ie friction to that part od the foot which then leads to thickening of the skin thus leading to calluses. The corn can be soft or hard depending on the location on the foot. The best way to treat them is using a pumice stone and rubbing it over the corn which will help get rid of the dead skin . You can also use various over the counter medications to apply topically which contain salicyclic acid. If it gets worse then you could contact a podiatrist for more indepth treatment. All the best.
