Sensitivity of my testicle one year after hydrocele surgery

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi! Last year (4th of July, 2010) I had done a hydrocele surgery. After one year, everything is ok. The only thing is that I have noticed that my testicle which had the hydrocele,is now more sensitive than the other one. I don't feel any pain, it is just more sensitive. Is it normal? Will it be less sensitive as the other one in time? Thank you!

Dear George: This is not normal. However, unless you are experiencing some sort of discomfort it is not a cause for concern. It is difficult to say why you are experiencing this particular phenomenon. A likely explanation is the regrowth of nerve endings in the skin over the testicles (scrotum). I suspect with more time you will not be able to appreciate any difference in sensitivity between skin over both testicles.
