Never had a period how can i make it start?

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi Im almost 18 years old and I have had anorexia in the past but I'm recovered now. I still dont have my period and I was wondering if there was a way that I could induce it?

Dear Bronte: I do understand your concern, though anorexia may cause amenorrhea, I would suggest that you consult your gynecologist regarding this problem.  The cause for primary amenorrhea could be due to anatomical and congenital reasons, hormonal imbalance and ovaries not functioning properly.
