Vomitting, Nausea, Extreme thirst, Constant headache

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi there, I'm a 19 year old female, and for the last week and a half or so I've been nauseous, unable to eat much without feeling like throwing up, extremely thirsty, no matter how much I drink, with a constant headache. The first day this started I threw up the entire day even still when it got to the point where nothing but watery foam was coming up. I deal with depression and anxiety although I don't take medication for it, I prefer meditation and it usually works decently for me but around the same time that I got sick, I've been extremely depressed, moody, irritable. I am sexually active and wondered if I was possibly pregnant, I had what seemed like a usual menstrual period though, with the exception that it only lasted 3-4 days when it's typically 7-10 for me, but that's happened before. I took a pregnancy test and it came up negative. I also know I have issues with low iron as well. I have a tendency to avoid going to the doctor as I'm shy and tend to down play how I'm feeling, which results in less help but this has me slightly worried and I haven't been feeling any better besides that fact that I haven't thrown up again. I've been waiting for it to pass, but the longer I don't feel improvement the more worried I feel. I suppose I just want some thoughts from someone who knows what they are talking about so I can get an idea of what's going on with me. My apologies that this was so long. Thank you for taking the time to read this. - Red
Dear Rea: It is difficult for me to state what exactly you may be having without having checked you up. However from your symptoms you may have one of the following: Pregnancy, a viral flu/ stomach flu. I would highly advice you to go to the physician in person and repeat a pregnancy test and also get other tests like a CBC done which would give us a clearer picture. Since you are also feeling very thirsty this could indicate some diabetes and thus you would need to get your sugar levels checked too. I hope this helps. All the best. |
