Dear Ask The Doctor: I have a yeast infection and im taking a topical cream clotrimaderm, clottrimazole. My dosage is 2 times a day for 10 days. I have a skin discoloration on my penis and i have been using this cream for 9 days and its still pale white just before the head of the penis. Will the infection go away and the skin will take a while to go back to normal or is that how I know its completely gone? I wanted to know if the skin colour will return to normal.
Dear Chuck: I understand your concern about the skin discoloration caused by yeast infection. Candidiasis in men usually causes red rash with white lesions on the head of the penis, and sometimes ulcerations, itchiness and dry flaking skin. The discoloration should resolve on its own and you do not need to be worried. However, if your partner also has a yeast infection, she needs to be treated too. Otherwise, you may keep re-infecting each other. Also, its generally recommended that you refrain from sexual contact until all signs and symptoms of the infection are gone. I wish you a prompt recovery. |
