Can yeast infection one week after sex be an early sign of HIV?? |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I had sex for the first time May of this year I had my period two days later. Several days after that I got a yeast infection(which I've never had before). I stared reading about STD's and saw things about swollen lymph nodes, sores, fevers, flu like symptoms ect..so I stared freaking out and checking myself out. I think I recall my lymph nodes feeling a little swollen when I checked them when I also had a yeast infection. I've been taking birth control for one yr. I used three day monistat. I felt better but about three-four weeks later I got another yeast infection..I am now on my last day of monistat seven day. I've been having lower abdominal pain off and on along with the yeast infection. I get worried about things like this My sex wasn't wanted and it was unprotected. He pulled out but I'm not certain if any come got in me. I read that yeast infections can be an early sign of HIV infection. Is it possible to have a yeast infection as a HIV symptom one week after sex?? I'm really scared and plan on getting tested but until then..I'm so worried. I haven't noticed any other symptoms..I've always had back aches when I sleep funky..and headaches. What are the chance of this being HIV???Or what else could it be..or is it just a yeast infection?????Please help. Dear Katie: Yeast infection is very common in women, and may recur if not treated completely. Proper hygiene along with complete course of medications is essential for cure. Symptoms of HIV infection may appear as early as 2 weeks following exposure. Although less likely, it would be best to get tested for HIV infection (as you have had an unprotected sex), that may have similar symptoms and infections in early stages.
