Have I Still got Chlamydia?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I tested positive for chlamydia 2wk ago and was given a single dose (2 tablets) of azithromycin. I am still getting a thick white discharge thats smells and im worried that the treatment may not have worked. Any advise you could give me would be greatly appreciated

Dear Victoria: Azithromycin may completely cure chlamydia infection in 95% of cases after one course of the antibiotic.However since you still have signs of vaginitis, I would recommend that you see your doctor for microscopical examination and culture of the discharge. You should refrain form sexual intercourse at this time until your partner has been tested and treated for chlamydial infection as well.
