Dear Ask The Doctor: Taken 40 Paracetamol and 10 solpadeine in 12 hours what will happen to me
Dear Darren:The maximum daily dose of Paracetamol is 4,000mg/day, and you have exceeded this dose sixfold. Toxicity is likely to occur with single ingestions greater than 250 mg/kg or those greater than 12,000mg over a 24-hour period. If you ingested 40 paracetamol tablets this equals 20,000mg of paracetamol. In addition to this solpadene contains paracetamol and codeine, so a further 10 solpadene tablet equals and additional 5000mg of paracetamol. Please seek medical attention immediately at your local emergency department for urgent treatment to prevent severe liver damage secondary to toxicity. |
