Dear Ask The Doctor: I took xanax 2 days ago. It was 2 1mg pills. I have a drug test tomorrow. What should I do?
Dear Trulora: Xanax (alprazolam) is a short-acting benzodiazepine with a half life of 11.2 hours. This may or may not show on a drug test, this depends on who is testing the sample, if the sample is urine, blood or oral fluid, and if the drug testing kit includes detection of benzodiazepines. The most common drugs tested for in a urine sample are marijuana (THC), cocaine, amphetamines/methamphetamines (Ecstasy, crystal meth), opiates (heroin) and phencyclidine (PCP). If you have a prescription for this medication from your family physician, it may be appropriate to mention to the relevant authority that you are taking a prescription benzodiazepine prior to drug testing. |
