Overdose or desperate need for sleep?

Dear Ask The Doctor: My question involves not so much a overdose but a proper detox and if i should seek medical attention. Today is Saturday, Thursday i remember having dinner, then nothing until this morning. 36 hours are missing. I took 4 mg of Clonazepam (1mg twice a day prescribed) to calm down and get some sleep i desperately needed. Then a 36 hour blackout. After calling me for over 12 hours my mother came to my house to make sure i was ok. Since this morning i have put some of the pieces together. After taking the Clonazepam 36 hours ago and blacking out, I called my mother at 10 Thursday night and begged her to take me grocery shopping, and when she dropped me off at 11:30 Thursday night yelled at me to put the frozen food away so it wouldn't rot and to go straight to sleep. In that 36 hour blackout I apparently left the house for 2 hours to go shopping, got home ok, stripped down, and slept for 30 hours or more. The prescription bottle which had 15-20 Clonzepam is empty, a 30 oz glass of whiskey and soda is empty, and i can't remember if a bottle of ritalin was empty already or not but the top is lose. I feel fine now but i'm worried. hopefully i was just so tired i slept for 30 hours. But if the Clonazpam bottle and whiskey glass is empty the only explanation is i drank the liquor and took 15-20 mg of Clonazepam 36 hours ago. Even though 36 hours has passed, consuming that much Clonazepam and alcohol can be dangerous. Should i alert a doctor as soon as possible or will rest and keeping an eye on my health for any changes be enough to pull through?
Dear John: My suggestion after an episode like that is to definitely go and see your doctor. Sometimes mixing alcohol with drugs can have some adverse affects on your health. Definitely try and stay away from taking anymore drugs until you see your doctor. Hope this helps/ |
