Drugs that can alleviate alcohol abuse

Dear Ask The Doctor: I know someone who had to be treated for hallucinations due to alcohol. He saw a doctor who subscribed meds. After visiting a physician the next day who precribed medication (i didnt know what it was), he took a dose and within 3 to 4 hours said he was fine again and went back to work the next day. I and a few friends are dubious about the whole situation. Can anti- hallucinogenic drugs really cure someone that quickly or do you think this whole thing was a cry for help. Apparantly this has happened before. Are we as friends having the wool pulled or is this genuine? Thank you

Dear Roger: There is no drug that could get you fixed up for that within 3-4 hours.
