Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi! I took Paxil for my anxiety for 2 weeks. after I developed a ringing in my ears. The doctor told me to stop Paxil right away. I want to know how long will it take for the ringing in my ear to go away?? Is it permanent? I am really worried.
Dear Chris: Tinnitus (ringing in the ear) is a known side effect of Paxil (Paroxetine). The tinnitus usually stops with cessation of the drug. However, the length of time of recovery varies significantly between individuals. In most persons, the drug is almost completely cleared from the body within 10 days. i would expect your symptoms to abate by then. It is unlikely that you have any permanent damage since you were on the drug for a relatively short period of time. |
