Ibuprofen 4000mg is This a Problem? |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: Have been taking 4000mg of ibproforen a day. I understand that this may be bad for you. It has not affected me at all. How long does it take to have any reactions Dear Mary: You have been taking more than the recommended safe limit of 3200mg daily dose of Ibuprofen. Usually the symptoms of overdose occur almost within a few hours of ingestion, but as your body has been able to tolerate such a high dose for a long time, it might be possible that you have developed severe changes in the blood platelet function and that you may be bleeding in stool (dark stools) which may have been unnoticed. In my opinion you should get a blood test and a stool occult blood test done to look for any hidden internal bleeding that might have been there. In the long term, damage to other organs like liver and kidney along with gastric ulcers are inevitable consequences of taking high doses of ibuprofen.
