Dear Ask The Doctor: I took 8000 mg of ibuprofen and 6000 mg of acetaminophen throughout the course of the day. no alcohol. i dont really feel much except for a slight numbing sensation around my neck area. i was able to drive too. no stomach aches, vision blurriness, nausea, vomiting or any other symptoms i read online. I also dont feel extra tired. will i be okay? i am a 170lb male.
Dear Howard: The dose of ibuprofen and acetaminophen is extremely high. Even though you may not feel any symptoms, the overdose may affect internal organs mainly liver due to its toxic effects and permanent damage. Symptoms may not occur until 12 or more hours after the ibuprofen or acetaminophen was swallowed. It would be safe to consult your doctor for an assessment of the degree of liver or any organ damage, so that immediate treatment can be administered if required.
