Dear Ask The Doctor: Yeah ive been taking citalopram for a little more than a week and i cant handle the side effects any more and want to stop taking them till i can talk to my doctor this week. should i ween myself off of them slowly by breaking a 20mg in a half to take everyday for a couple days?
Dear Alexander: Citaprolam is a selctive serotonin reuptake inhibitor and is used to treat depression primarily. However you cannot stop it suddenly . If done so there are severe to serious side effects and withdrawal symptoms like serotonin discontinuation syndrome which is characterised by high fever, nausea, vomitting, high heart rate etc. This medication needs to be decreased slowly over a period of time and it is best to talk to your treating physician regarding the same since he/she has more indepth history and knowledge into your condition. All the best. |
