Dear Ask The Doctor: Monday night I was diagnosed with Castochondritis at an Urgent Care site. They administered a 6 mg injection of Celestone and a 60 mg injection of Taradal. A script was written for Tramadol HCL 50 mg tablets. I took one tablet before bed Monday night and took four yesterday (Tuesday). I woke up around 11 p.m. last night sweating and with severe itching over my entire body. For the entire night, every time I would get to sleep, I'd wake myself up scratching. Since 5:00 this morning, if I sit too long, I have a hard time keeping my eyes open. In doing some research, I have discovered there can be some adverse side effects if Tramadol is taken while also taking Sertraline. I have been taking 200 mg's of Sertraline for the past three plus years (the Urgent Care Center was advised of this). I have not taken either of the meds this morning. Basically, my question is, "Due to the severity of the itching and having trouble keeping my eyes open, should I not worry about it, wait until my family doctor's office opens or should I just go in to the Emergency Room?". Thank you in advance for your answer!!!
Dear Christina: Your concern about the itching and trouble keeping your eyes after taking tramadol are a genuine concern. I would definitely advise you to go to the ER immediately. There may also be a concern of getting seizures due to the combination of tramadol and sertraline (SSRI). I hope I could be of help, take care. |
