Almonds upset my stomach

Dear Ask The Doctor: I am a 60 year old female who has never suffered from any kind of allergies. Lately, when I have eaten almonds, I have suffered upper abdominal pain. It's sharp pain that comes and goes over about a 24 hr. period. After all these years could I suddenly be allergic ?
