Dear Ask The Doctor: I've been having problems with a pressure in my forehead for the last few days and a mild case of dizziness. These seem to be new symptoms along with others in the rest of my body that i am currently experiencing. The other symptoms are a pain in my abdomen on the lower left side and blurred vision at the outer edges of my vision. Any ideas?
Dear Adam: It is really difficult for me to give you an exact cause of your symptoms. The symptoms of dizziness, blurring of vision and abdominal pain could be realted or could be separate problems. Dizziness could be caused by numerous problem, the common ones being migraine headaches, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, certain medication, cerebrovascular disease, coronary artery disease and anemia.
In my opinion your symptoms of pressure in the forehead and dizziness could be due to migraine headache. However, it could also be due a pathology of the inner ear. In your case I would definitely advise that you consult your doctor, preferably a neurologist and an otolaryngologist (ENT doctor) for your dizziness and blurring of vision. It is important to rule out more serious causes of dizziness and blurring of vision such as stroke or TIA (transient ischaemic attack), optic neuritis, retinal detachment and temporal arteritis. Your doctor may take a detailed history and perform a thorough physical and neurological examination. Also he may advise for blood-work and imaging studies such as a complete blood count, blood sugar, electrolytes, slit lamp examination, otoscopy and CT brain to make a definite diagnosis. You may also need to see a gastroenterologist for your symptoms of abdominal pain. Since you have a family history of Crohn's, there is a likelihood that you may have it too. |
