Concerned about horrible year-long congestion

Dear Ask The Doctor: I've had problems with congestion for several years now and I've tried just about everything. Allergy pills don't help at all; the only thing that does help is mentholated nasal spray but I have to use it far more frequently than I should. I'm worried about what this is doing for my health and that stuff isn't cheap. If I don't use it I can't sleep and eating is very difficult. My congestion is the same everywhere I go, even when there is nothing around that I am allergic to, no matter the season. Lately it has been getting worse. I've heard enlarged adenoids could be an issue but is there anything else that may be causing my congestion? What should I do?
