Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi, I just found out that my 14 yr old son has been self injuring himself as a way to cope with his emotions. Obviously i am very concerned on how to deal with this. He was diagnosed with ADHD about 8 yrs ago but hasnt been on any meds for about 9 months. we took him off over the summer and he seemed fine so he wanted to try and not take them and has been fine. my question is could him having adhd and not taking meds have any effect on how he handles his emotions and feelings?
