ADD symptoms with involuntary outbursts of nonsensical speech

Dear Ask The Doctor: I am a twenty year old male who was described as gifted as a child but could never concentrate. I was never hyper or disruptive but could be difficult at times and was constantly tapping my fingers or feet. I still do this now. Over the past few years I have attempted a number of courses in order to enter tertiary level education but could never see them through. I undertood the material perfectly but could never force myself to do the necessary work, often spending hours staring out windows or playing with various objects around my work space rather than do any sort of school work. In the last year or so I have started muttering nonsense words to myself or humming tunelessly when a certain type of thought enters my head. This is largely involuntary and any sort of control I had over it seems to be dissapearing. These outbursts are starting to worry me. Could I have ADD or something similar? Thank you
