Chicken Pox and post exposure prophylaxis |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: Can a child who never received the chickenpox vaccine, was exposed to the chicken pox virus, now receive the vaccine and be protected before symptoms appear? Dear Carol: Post exposure prophylaxis for children as well as adults exposed to chicken pox is available in the form of Varicella zooster immunoglobulin. This should be taken within 72 hours of the exposure to be effective. All the best. |
