Dear Ask The Doctor: Can a child who never received the chickenpox vaccine, was exposed to the chicken pox virus, now receive the vaccine and be protected before symptoms appear? Dear Carol: Post exposure prophylaxis for children as well as adults exposed to chicken pox is available in the form of Varicella zooster immunoglobulin.
