Dear Ask The Doctor: Im doing research for a movie, and i have a couple quick questions about amnesia: a) i know a head injury can cause amnesia i just want to confirm that its possible to lose all prior memory to the accident including ones own name b) if said person was in the hospital unconcious, would the doctors be able to tell they had amnesia or would they not know the full extent until the person woke up?
Dear Alexandria: Post-traumatic amnesia is a common consequence of concussion injury (head trauma). In most cases. CT scans won't usually show abnormalitites and diagnosis is mainly based on neurologic assessment and exams. I hope this helps. |
