Chest discomfort running to my throat?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I had a baby 9 months ago and since then have had what feels to me like my heart is skipping a beat it doesn't happen everyday but when it does its often and feels like a thump in my chest and goes up to my throat.
Dear Chelsea:
That could just be a benign condition (e.g. GERD). In GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), the acid from the stomach goes up and reaches the oesophagus, sometimes the throat. On its way up, it can cause some chest discomfort, others will complain of chest pain. However, it is still best if you will have it checked to make sure there are no other serious underlying heart conditions. I do hope this helps and take care always. |
