I think i've caused trauma to my urethra

Dear Ask The Doctor: Yesterday i went for a chlamydia test and i dont know why on earth i did it but i think i put the cotton swab up my urethra instead of my vagina. (i blame it on feeling very embarrased and wanting to leave as soon as possible :P ) anyway, i have some blood and its very painful when i pee. have i damaged anything? and will this cause a bladder infection? please reply
