Osteoporosis Compression fracture Treatment

Dear Ask The Doctor: What course of treatment is next after being turned down for kyphoplasty? Had vetebroplasty on t8 and now 7 & 9 are coompressed.

Dear Susan: There are non-operative treatments that can be employed to treat compression fractures as a result of osteoporosis. From your mediction history I see that you are presently taking all the recommended medications. In addition to these medications physical therapy may be of added benefit.

You have not stated why you have been "turned down" for Kyphoplasty. This surgical procedure is usually reserved fro patients who are still having significant symptoms after all non-operative measures have been utilized. If you are not a candidate for any surgical procedure then perhaps a pain management specialist may be able to fing the specific combination of medications to reduce your symptoms.
