SLAP tear, Surgery or not?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I have a type II SLAP lesion tear...Dr wants to do surgery..I dont want it..what happens the longer I wait?
Dear KEN: SLAP tears are usually treated with rest and anti-inflammatory medications for a duration of up to 3 months. Failure of this type of conservative treatment suggest that the tear will not heal with surgical intervention. If you choose not to do surgery then you may develop chronic shoulder pain and reduced range of motion. These symptoms may make it difficult to perform some of your routine daily activities which involve raising your arm above your head. |
