Dear Ask The Doctor: Just wondering would a swollen throat be worse for men due to the Adam's apple or no difference between men or women.

Dear Gr: There is no difference in severity of symptoms in men and women.  The infection actually occurs at the level of the tonsils and the tonsils are relatively the same in men and women.
