Can Sani Wipes cause UTIs?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I use PDI sani wipes at work everyday (the kind that are apparently suppose to only be used on nonporous surfaces), often on my exposed skin. A nurse told me that the chemicals can get into your bloodstream and cause UTIs. Is this statement true? I am a 22 year old female who has suffered from frequent UTIs over the last two years.
Dear Alyssa: Any wipes that can cause local irritation can lead to a vaginitis as well as sometimes a UTI as they can promote bacteria. While wiping always wipe front to back. Also avoid using any chemicals in the vaginal and pelvic area. I hope this helps. ALl the best |
