A bit scared for my dad!

Q: About a month ago he woke up with his upper lip frozen and unable to lower his lips over his teeth. At this time he was taking Tramadol as prescribed by the doctor for some other medical reason I am unaware of. This persisted all day long for over a week and then it diminished to afternoons and now it has come down to just one side that keeps on lifting on it's own. He is able to force it down but must constantly be aware of it. This seems to slowly improve but i am still very concern of the reason and potential danger. Any ideas?
