A puzzling bump

Patient

Q: I am three weeks out from major back surgery and now I have a very pronounced lump on the right side of my body about belt high. It is approx. 8 inches long and about 4 inches wide. Nothing shows up on a xray other than the screws, plates etc. that the surgeon put in my back. I am concerned that it could be something in there growing. The surgeon says it is nothing to worry about. My description is a loose muscle that has knotted up. Any ideas?
