Acute pain shoulder, bicep w/loss appetite diarrhea

Q: My 85 year old father, who has always been in excellent health, has developed unbearable pain in his shoulder and bicep. He is a former college athlete and always lifted weights, exercised, similar to a Jack Lalane. He has no appetite and for the past month or two has had diarrhea. He is weak and difficult to reason with to get him to a doctor. He is very intelligent and doesn't exhibit any signs of memory loss.10 days ago took him to acupuncture which provided some relief but tried again 3 days ago and it didn't help. The pain has increased and loss of appetite diarrhea, he is in bed most of the day.l
