Adderall's effect on the brain

Patient : I am 46, 170lbs and have been recently diagnosed with ADHD. I have been prescribed Adderall (Amphetamine Salts) which I have learned is a form of speed. All of this came about as a result of marital problems which has resulted in my divorce. I have incredible difficulty dealing with my divorce however when I take the Adderall my mind does not dwell on it, in fact I almost have a feeling of apathy. I also can focus on moving on with other things in my life like purchasing a house, or dating, etc... I do not like taking medicine however I like the feeling that this medicine provides me. First I would like to know if the Adderall quickens a part of the brain so that I have the apathy I mentioned or does it deaden a part so that can think on other things. Secondly, I try to only take one of these a day because I have trouble sleeping at night if I take more. Is there something natural I can drink or eat that can produce the same effect? Thanks for your time.
