Air embolism during IV saline

Patient

Q: An air bubble went into my vein while i was taking a IV saline. Is it very risky. I passed 8hours after that.

Symptoms:  Light chest pain in central area
Doctor

A:   Thanks for consulting ATD. Small air bubble does not cause any disease. It will be filtered and absorbed at capillary level. Air in the large quantity in the blood vessels can hamper circulation and this condition is called air embolism. This condition is not common and quantity of air more than 10 CC may cause this. Hope your are clear on this and be peaceful. Have a nice day.
