Q: Hi doc, I had a foreseps delivery last august and I lost 1.8 liters of blood and the doctor recommdended to take blood transfusion because my iron level was 7.but I refused and kept on taking iron tablets.recently i went to my GP and I have done complete blood count and serum ferritin test.the test shows that my hemoglobin is 14 and ferritin is 79 but they didn't ask for serum iron test! and I have these symptoms all the time which is dizziness, sweating, coldness, breathlessness and I get tired while doing any little efforts.the question is am i have to do serum iron test to show the iron in the blood or these tests are enough? and I want to know what did they mean when they told me in the hospital that my iron level was 7? did they mean the hemoglobin or what? because I am really confused and don't know what to do or where to go.Thanks for your help.
