Ankle injury


Q: While jogging with my dog I rolled my ankle and injured it. I think that this is just a sprain, but when it happened it was accompanied by a loud cracking sound. It swelled and range of motion is limited but on the second day after it happened I can put some weight, not all, on it as long as I don't rotate it at all in what would be a normal heal to toe walking motion. I am using an ace bandage to compress it to keep the swelling down, and it is now limited to a fairly small bulge (2X1) and bruising on the exterior of the ankle bone. I am trying to classify this in terms of severity Grade I, II, III so that I know if I should be wearing something to immobilize it, and to give me an idea of how long the recovery period will be. I am a runner and am afraid that I may not be able to get back to this for months? Can you give me an idea of what treatment other than R.I.C.E. that I should do to increase recovery speed?
