Anxiety & Depression after leaving alcohol & cardiovascular therapy

Q: Dear Sir,

My father has alcohol & smoking habits from past 15 years (gradually he decreased the intake), He is also suffering from diabetes & blood pressure problems from 12 years. He left smoking & alcohol 5 months ago completely.
His kidneys are affected by diabetes and showing the creatinine levels of 2.5 & recently, he had gone through angiography which reported 50%,50% & 30% blockage.

My question is: Why he is feeling so low now a days, Is he suffering from alcohol or smoking withdrawal effects? Are these anxiety and depression are the effects of medicines he is taking from long time? What should he do?
Please answer, because I am not finding any suitable answer anywhere, If I go to a doctor they prescribe medicines, which have short term effects.

I request you to please provide answer. Thank You a lot of times for your time & effort.
