Appendix and IBS

Patient

Q: My appendix was remove by surgery about 17 years ago. Shortly afterwards, I started having have bowel problems shortly after eating. When I was pregnant it went away. After I had my daughter it came back. My doctor at the time told me to take a pill that was for spasm of the intestines. He said there was extra room and my intestines needed to get use to it. I was allergic to the pill and stopped taking them thinking I could handle it....my question.....Is this common and has any updates been made to the purpose of the appendix? This is becoming a problem now that I need to go to business dinners, etc
