Birth Control Effectiveness – Late Pill

Patient: Hello, I just have a quick question about birth control – combined progestin and estrogen pills. I’m on a low dose birth control called Aviane. Should I be concerned about its effectiveness if I was 50 minutes late taking the pill one day?

Doctor: I understand your worry. Let me reassure you that this won’t interfere with your contraceptive protection. You should no not skip a pill though, even if you miss a pill one day, you should take both on the next day. I wish you the best.
