Boxer's fracture, right hand, reccuring brake

Patient

Q: I broke my hand (boxers fracture) one year ago and got surgery to have pins inserted to correct the fracture. Three days ago, I broke it again, this time only my ring finger (not pinky and ring finger like before) and the surgeon gave me the option to have pins put in again or to let it heal on its own. The swelling is nowhere near as bad last time and the pain isn't as bad either. My question is, do you think the healing process will be prolonged and more difficult without surgery and will the long term affects be worse? I really want to avoid surgery but am only 25 and don't want this to cause me problems later on in life. Thank you.
