Patient

Q: Hi,
i was just wondering why some people can tolerate ibuprofen when they have an aspirin allergy?
thank you very much

Symptoms:  nil
Doctor

A:   A person known to be allergic/ sensitive to aspirin, should ideally avoid all forms of aspirin, as well as other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen and naproxen) which are chemically similar to aspirin. But, it is important to first confirm the diagnosis of aspirin allergy, before such restrictions are imposed.
