Can you recover from a mental illness?

Q: Can you recover from a mental illness?

Doctor

A:   Hello,
Thanks for the query.

It is indeed possible to recover from a mental illness. However, we need to diagnose as to what illness the person is suffering from and also check the neurological functions. Many mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, panic attacks, schizophrenia, conversion disorders, somatic pains, etc have found control with therapy. Treatment may include behaviour therapy and medications with multiple counselling sessions. You will have to see a psychiatrist first for a proper diagnosis and then go about with the treatment. It might be a slow process though, but will be of help.

Hope this helped.
Regards
