Chest problems

Q: I am a 21 year old female and have suffered with occasional palpitations for a few years which I ignored, as i assumed it was due to smoking. I no longer smoke, and eat relatively healthily. Since yesterday my chest has been incredibly tight and I have experienced sharp pains and moments of dizziness and weakness. I am not usually one to go to a doctor and complain of anything but this is really scaring me. I feel quite cold compared to usual. I had hardly any sleep last night as when I try to sleep my heart feels like it's going to stop. Feels almost like someone is holding it tightly and i think it's beating slowly. What should I do? Should I exercise to warm up and get my blood flowing and see if that clears it? I am sceptical of going to my GP as if there is ever anything wrong (which isn't often) I am told to take a course of tablets for a couple of weeks and then go back. If i go back, the process begins again. Thanks in advance. Tasha
